FAQ
What is a puddle flange?
A puddle flange is a fitting used on polyethylene (PE) pipelines to act as a restraint point, stopping water from tracking along the outside of the pipe where it passes through a wall, slab, or structure. Derwent Industries’ puddle flanges are cast in ductile iron and are 100% Australian made.
What are puddle flanges used for?
Puddle flanges are used to anchor and restrain PE pipe at a fixed point in a pipeline — typically where the pipe passes through concrete, at a change of direction, or wherever restraint is needed along the run. They prevent movement of the pipe and stop water migrating (or “puddling”) along the pipe wall at that point.
What is the difference between a puddle flange and a weep flange?
In Derwent’s range, “puddle flange” and “weep flange” refer to the same ductile iron fitting — it’s listed as a combined PE Puddle / Weep Flange. Functionally, it restrains the PE pipe at a set point while also managing water at that junction, which is why both terms are used for it interchangeably in the water industry.
What certification and standards do Derwent’s puddle flanges meet?
Derwent’s puddle flanges are manufactured to meet Australian Standards and hold StandardsMark Product Licence No. SMK1989. They’ve also been tested and approved in accordance with City West Water testing requirements, and carry WSAA and WaterMark recognition.
What sizes of puddle flanges are available at Derwent?
Derwent Industries manufactures its ductile iron PE Puddle / Weep Flanges in DN 125 and DN 180. These two sizes cover the standard restraint requirements for PE pipeline installations in Australia.
What material are Derwent’s puddle flanges made from?
They’re made from ductile iron, coated with PPG 699-87141 Autoprime Dipping Black for corrosion protection. Bolts, nuts, and washers are not supplied with the fitting — Derwent recommends M16 x 75 hardware for installation.
Are Derwent’s puddle flanges Australian made?
Yes. Derwent Industries’ PE Puddle / Weep Flanges are 100% Australian made, manufactured in-house using Derwent’s own casting, coating, and machining capabilities.
